Fourth 'Romantic Piano Concerto' CD Released

February also sees the release of Jonathan's 4th CD in the renowned Hyperion Records 'Romantic Piano Concerto Series'.  Recorded back in 2014 it features two Concerti and a Ballade for Piano and Orchestra, with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra conducted by Lukasz Borowicz.   One of the most Romantic concertos he has played, Jonathan was thrilled to perform the 1st Concerto with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra to a capacity audience of 1,000 on Valentines Day 2015 (and repeated the following day to another audience of 1,000).   The reviewer in the national music magazine Ruch Muzyczny, wrote "The performance of Jonathan Plowright, the most Polish among foreigner pianists, and simply an ambassador of our music, was the centre and core of the evening."

His previous disc for the series reached number 3 in the Specialist Classical Charts.  New CD available here:      https://www.hyperion-records.co.uk/dc.asp?dc=D_CDA68066

Jonathan is Husum Piano Festival's "Mr Piano"!

Following his fifth appearance at this "unique musical paradise" for lovers of the piano repertoire, Jonathan was once again enthusiastically received as the glowing reviews attest: "Sollte beim Blick über die Husumer Raritätenjahre hinweg der Titel eines „Mr. Piano“ vergeben werden, wäre Jonathan Plowright – seit 2003 zum fünften Mal im Rittersaal zu Gast – ein starker Favorit. Bei ihm meint man die Seele des Flügels sprechen und singen zu hören: machtvoll, doch nie dröhnend, sensibel ohne Verzärtelung, mit wundervollem Legato ohne Pedalschlieren und mit trocken pointiertem, doch nie hartem Direktklang, wo die Musik es erfordert."
("If ever the title of "Mr. Piano " were to be awarded by the Husum Festival of Rarities over the years, then Jonathan Plowright who has, since 2003 played five times in the Great Hall, would be a strong favourite. When he is playing we imagine that we hear the soul of the piano speaking and singing: powerful, but never overwhelming; sensitive, without over-indulgence, with a wonderful Legato and no over-pedaling, and a dry, pointed sound where the music requires it, yet never too harsh" ) He

A Surprise Presentation

During the interval of his recital for Clitheroe Concerts Society in November Jonathan was taken by surprise by music students from his nearby former school when they presented him with his Grade 8 examination certificate!  Found in an old drawer, dusted off and framed, they thought it was about time he took possession of it, much to the amusement of the Clitheroe Society ... who according to their Chairman said how good it was to "hear such a consummately brilliant musician such as Jonathan in Clitheroe. The elderly lady living opposite me came across the road to say that she had been going to concerts all her life and had never been to such a good one or such an enjoyable one" https://twitter.com/Stonyhurst/status/662032197206081537

Forthcoming Firsts

In the second half of the season Jonathan's concerts will all be firsts in one way or another:
- In March he will join the highly respected Brodsky Quartet in a performance of the Shostakovich Piano Quintet as part of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland's Piano Festival and broadcast by BBC Radio 3.
- In early April he gives his debut solo recital Munich, in the Allerheiligen Hofkirche, part of the stunning Munich Residenz.
The Residenz houses a number of State-owned Palaces, Gardens and Lakes - the Museum, Treasury, Cuvilliés-Theater as well as the Allerheiligen-Hofkirche. The complex as a whole is one of the largest museums in Bavaria.
- Later in April appears with the Szczecin Filharmonia to perform the Paderewski Piano Concerto in their brand new, award-winning concert hall - another stunning building, I'm sure you will agree!

.......................and finally

In the last Newsletter I asked what did Jonathan, Hugh Grant and Liszt have in common?   I can now reveal that Jonathan will make a brief (and probably unrecognisable!) appearance, as a pianist called Ernest Ziegler, in the forthcoming film about Florence Foster Jenkins directed by Stephen Frears.  Starring Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant, Jonathan shares a scene with their characters in which he performs excerpts from Liszt's 2nd Hungarian Rhapsody for them.....which doesn't go down too well!  Watch out for the release later in 2016!
